Jeff Holt is a Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Otolaryngology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.  His lab studies the genetics and physiology of sensory hair cells in the inner ear and has contributed to identification of TMC1 as the protein that converts sound into electrical signals in the inner ear.  Translational work in Jeff’s lab is focused on gene therapy for genetic hearing loss using gene replacement, gene editing and base editing.  He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Rochester in 1995 and has been working in the field for the past 25 years.   Jeff has been working with the Usher Syndrome Society (USS) for several years and is chair of the USS scientific advisory committee.
