Times Square Takeover for Usher Syndrome Awareness Day 2025
On September 20th, 2025 at 11AM, The Usher Syndrome Society took over multiple Times Square billboards in the heart of NYC for a second time!
This year’s takeover took place in honor Usher Syndrome Awareness Day, an internationally recognized day to bring awareness to the rare disease, Usher syndrome, which causes progressive vision and hearing loss.

The billboards featured footage from our two powerful awareness commercials that make up our Every Second Counts campaign The first commercial features Rebecca Alexander, award-winning author, psychotherapist, keynote speaker, disability rights advocate, and extreme athlete. The second commercial features the Mullarkey family, in particular, Michael Mullarkey, the youngest of five children, who was unexpectedly diagnosed with Usher syndrome at 1 year old. Together, these commercials begin to depict the wide spectrum of experiences that define Usher syndrome. Watch the full commercials below:
