Eliot Shearer, MD, PhD

Eliot Shearer is a Pediatric Otolaryngologist with a long-standing clinical and research interest in genetic hearing loss and Usher Syndrome. The goal of Eliot’s clinical and research work is to improve the lives of children with all forms of hearing loss. He is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School and Attending Physician at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is the Director of the Translational Hearing Genomics Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital. The lab studies the genetics and genomics of human hearing loss using basic science approaches, mouse models for hearing loss, as well as through genomic studies of children with hearing loss. Eliot received his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Iowa where he also completed his Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery residency. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
